Joshi takes 2nd Bhubaneswar Open chess title

Abhijeet Joshi of Maharashtra emerged champion, scoring 8.5 points from 10 rounds in the 2nd Bhubaneswar Open All-India Fide Rating Chess Tournament, which concluded here at Prabhujee English Mediium School, VSS Nagar today. He pocketed the top prize of Rs 20,000.

Altogether 269 players from 15 states joined four-day tournament, which was organised by Khordha District Chess Association, under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association. The 10-round tournament carried a total prize fund of Rs 2 lakhs, including Rs 20,000 for the champion and Rs 15,000 for the runner-up.

Abhijeet Joshi (Mah, 8.5), 2-5: Sai Agni Jeevitesh (AP), Arpan Das (WB), Pr Hirthickkesh (TN), Vikee Vishal (Bih) 8 each; 6-13: Sumit Kumar (WB), Malla Nooka Raju (AP), AR Harikrishnan (TN), Baivab Mishra (Odi), Pushkaraj Kambli (Mah), Rabindra Kumar Ojha (Odi), Potluri Saye Srreezza (AP), R Prakashram (TN) 7.5 each; 14-20: Sankalp Baliarsingh (Odi), Gobardhan Behera (Odi), Merryston David Scanny (TN), Subhayan Kundu (WB), Ansuman Samal (Odi), Suvra deepta Das (WB), Vijay Kumar (Bih) 7 each.
